Born on January 31, 1919 -Born in Cairo Georgia -He died in Stamford Connecticut from a heart attack -First black in the MLB signed with the Brooklyn dodgers in 1947 -Named rookie of the year in 1947 --MVP in 1949 -Won the world series in 1955 -He retired in 1955 -was the youngest of 5 children -raised by a single mother -exellent athlete and played four sports(football, basketball, track, and baseball -Named the regions most valuable player -Matthew Robinson, Jackie's older brother, inspired Jackie to pursue his talent and love for athletics |
Martian Luther King Jr.
-born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. -Through his activism, he played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African-American citizens -Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, Martin Luther King Jr. entered public school at age 5. -led marches through Selma, Alabama to help blacks gain voting rights -led many other non-violent protests -King was assassinated on April 4th, 1968 |
